An amazing, hard-working crew showed up for the first Rock Island Cleanup Day on May 4, 2019. So much work was done in just three hours. The team removed dirt that covered the pond floor, weeded, cut down a major buckthorn patch and more. They jumped in and went to work right away, each person claiming their own patch.
Hosted by Karen Laukkonen of restorelilacway.com, Michael Periolat and Diane Steen-Hinderlie, we had coffee and cookies and connected with others who also support saving Rock Island, a Lilac Way park.
Rock Island volunteers included Paula Evensen, Nancy Gertner, Heather Higa, Claudia Johnston, Shelly Kang, John Olson, Sandi Olson, Lindsey Periolat, Mary Periolat, Agata Wang and her 3 sons, Dennis Williams, and a woman in the red sweater, (looking for her name!). Holly Truax Williams stopped by, too. Plus a few others that visited and offered moral support.
