October 15, 2021. A sister park to restored Lilac Park, Lilac Way’s historic Rock Island park is facing a critical decision: preservation as a public park, or sale to a private developer. On Sept. 30th, 2021 MnDOT met with the City of St. Louis Park to discuss their interest in park ownership.
Join the Rally! Send a selfie or photo of your friends and family holding a ‘Say YES to Rock Island Park’ sign, and email it to karen@restorelilacway.com.
Let’s show St. Louis Park Mayor Spano and the City Council that our community supports preservation of this historic Lilac Way park.
Scroll down to see the people who urge the City to say YES! to Rock Island Park, and submit a request letter to MnDOT to express interest in taking this historic property.
It’s easy, 1-2-3.
- Write ‘Say YES to Rock Island Park!’ on a piece of paper
- Hold up the sign and take a selfie or have someone take your photo, anywhere you like
- Email it to karen@restorelilacway.com to be added to Rock Island’s Rally
Why do we need to rally for Rock Island?
MnDOT no longer needs the land and has confirmed that they want to relinquish ownership. City staff are preparing a report for City Council, to be presented at a Nov. 22, 2021 study session.
We are asking supporters to urge the City to submit a request letter to MnDOT, and tell them you want to include Rock Island Park in the SLP park system. Learn more
